Q1)What does OOC mean?

OOC means 'Out Of Character' talking. Everything you say outside of your actual roleplay post is considered 'OOC'.

Q2)What is 3rd person narrative?

Third-person narration provides the greatest flexibility to the author and thus is the most commonly used narrative mode in literature. In the third-person narrative mode, each and every character is referred to by the narrator as "he", "she", "it", or "they", but never as "I" or "we" (first-person), or "you" (second-person). In third-person narrative, it is necessary that the narrator is merely an unspecified entity or uninvolved person that conveys the story, but not a character of any kind within the story being told. More can be found HERE.

Q3)Can I invite my friends?

Yes. However, they will have to go through the roleplay application and the character application (along with all the other steps) just as you did.

Q4)How do I freelance roleplay?

Freelance roleplaying is very similar to writing a book, in the simplest explanation. (Writers usually have the easiest time getting into it. D&D players sometimes find freelance roleplaying too loose.) In freelance roleplaying, a plot is presented to you by one or several of the roleplayers. You will play one or more characters who interact with other characters roleplayed by other people on a mission with conflicts and resolutions dictated by your characters actions.

For example: Let's say the plot is about many planes that contain magical items that your character(s), along with the rest of the group, must retrieve. A demon lord and his minions are also after these items, as the bearer gains immeasurable power. Your group enters through a portal onto a dreary, damp plane, with mountains to your left and forest to your right. The following might ensue:

The roleplayer running the plane: Raymond stepped through the black hole that had opened onto the plane. The wisps of magic that he had passed were whisked off in a strong gust of wind from his left. The direction was difficult for him to place- the sky was thick with looming black clouds and the air hung heavy with the smell of a coming storm. "Roan, do you sense the rune?"

You: Roan pushed through the wisps in an almost irritated manner. Some of them clung to him and he brushed them off swiftly. He lifted his thin hand, feeling the air for the almost tangible waves of magic that radiated from the runes. He paused for longer than usual, though, and his brow knit. "I do not sense the rune on this plan..."

Another roleplayer: Layra stepped up beside Roan and followed his gaze to the sprawling field before them. "You do not sense the rune? What does that mean...? Is it not here?"

Raymond's owner: Raymond paused as well, scanning the sky warily. "Impossible. The portals only open up where the runes are..."

Evil roleplayer: From the group's left, Maynaz crouched behind the wilting bush before him. Between it's withered, grey leaves he could see the four standing close. They appeared still with anticipation. He liked that. Undoubtably, they were confused about the rune's location. He cackled to himself, caressing the pouch at his hip with almost motherly affection. He looked to his left for the tenth time. If the others didn't hurry... He scowled.

Raymond's owner: Raymond whipped his head sharply to his left. "Did you hear that?" he asked suddenly, elvish ears... (you get the picture at this point. By now, you should have a clear idea how this all works)

Q5)How many characters can I roleplay?

We don't like to set limits, but for all practical purposes, read this and use your reason, please: If there are, let's say, 10 roleplayers. And each roleplays 2 'good' characters, than there are 20 'good' characters and that many possible people to interact with. The more you make, the harder it will become to interact with others and for them to interact with you. The Golden Rule of How Many Characters is: You have to realistically be active with all your characters. If you aren't, they will be removed. So, for now the recommendation is no more than two. If you really really really feel the roleplay is utterly lost without your third, then go ahead and make it, however, the third will be accepted based on how many characters there already are and whether or not that current number is overwhelming. I'm sure many of you can make dozens of amazing characters, but please remember that others will have many characters and you should be in no shortage of people to interact with.

At this time, there is no restriction to how many evil characters you create, but remember you have to be able to maintain ALL of your characters. Think about no more than two/three evil characters. Because there are three categories of evil characters, it wouldn't be like 20 'plot main' evil characters. It might be like 10 'plot main' evil and 5 evil and 5 self interest or something. A lot less chaotic for the evil guys.

Also, just so you are aware -so you don't fee it's unfair: if at some point there becomes too many characters to the point where everyone is feeling overwhelmed and chaos is ensuing, 'third' (good) characters will be the first to be cut.

Q6)Can I roleplay an evil character?

Absolutely. There are three kinds of evil characters: The 'plot main' evil characters, the 'main' evil characters, and the self-interest evil characters.

Plot-Main Evil Characters: These evil characters are necessary to the plot and they will have a main evil leader/leaders who will very likely be being played by the same creator as the one who creates the basic plot- for obvious reasons. However, this 'leader' will take on any number of evil companions/advisers/same leveled 'leaders'. You'll need to pass your character app both through the admins and the 'leader' of the Plot-Main Evil Characters and talk with them to plot the destruction of your opponents- who can be the good guys and/or other evil characters and/or other things. For example, referring back to Q4, the Plot-Main Evil Characters would be the demon lord and his minions.

Main Evil Characters: These evil characters are fabulous to have and will add a lot of great things to the roleplay, but they are not necessary to the 'main plot'. They can be working with the plot main evil characters or be working against them. In addition, they'll (likely) be working against the good guys. There can be any number of Main Evil Characters unrelated to one another or working together. For example, if (referring back to Q4) Maynaz is not part of the demon lord's minions, he could be an Main Evil Character trying to get the runes before the demon lord and the 'good' group.

Self-interest Evil Characters: These characters are in it for themselves- they can be traveling with the group or on their own. The best self-interest characters will have some kind of interest that conflicts with the 'good' group and causes conflicts. If he's in his own little world and never causes conflict, no one will care about him. He could be Maynaz, trying to get the runes to kill one of the members of the 'good' group because she broke his heart. He could be an assassin, trying to kill off those with ties to the government. He could be an incubus, looking to prey on the women while they sleep. I don't care, but he'd better not be in his own little world... ALSO: These make GREAT characters to cloak their motivations and have them be working behind /everyone's/ backs. You don't have to roleplay out their evilness- but when the time comes, have him strike.

Q7)What if I have a problem with someone/something?

Talk to the admins. If one of the admins is the problem, then talk to another admin. If all of the admins are a problem, try another member. If you still are having problems at that point, take a vacation from the roleplay for a while and see if it's really that big of a deal. And if you are STILL having problems, this might not be the place for you. But always try to work things out before you just get up and leave.

Q8)Can I kill another person's character? How?

You are allowed to kill another person's character, but with the roleplayer's consent. Have your character attack another, but give the other roleplayer the ability to decide what happens. Possibly talk to the other roleplayer beforehand.

Following the story plot from Q4:

BAD: Another roleplayer: Suddenly, Farmer Jim realized that the enemy was behind the bushes. Luckily, he had brought along his lethal "Anti-Bad Names" powder. He pinched up a handful and threw it into the air- the dust quickly blew threw the air, dispersing around the area. Anyone with a ridiculous name within a half mile would suffocate as soon as they breathed in the airborne poison. The powder reached Maynaz, who had no chance of survival. It quickly stopped his breath and quenched the life from his ill-named body.

GOOD: Another roleplayer: Suddenly, Farmer Jim realized that the enemy was behind the bushes.

Evil roleplayer: Maynaz watched Farmer Jim throw the powder into the air, and seconds later he found it hard to breathe. His eyes grew wide with horror as he realized what he had breathed in. Anti-Bad Names powder! He began gasping, fighting to inhale fresh air- but it was too late. The powder choked him and stifled his breath. With his last, he realized the truth: his mother, who had given him his name, never really loved him. (Remember Secret Word: Farmer)

Q9)Can I have a royal/politically significant character?

Probably not. The political system is mostly decided on. Although there is room for pretty much any political person/royalty, it's not recommended and the admins will likely reject the request because: People who are more concerned with their 'faction' treat it like their own little world and tend not to care about the rest of the world of the people inhabiting it. Really, our main concern is that such a position will turn your character- intended or not intended- into one who will be more concerned with their little 'kingdom' then the great kingdom they truly inhabit- that of Ryekarayn. If you believe your character can still be prince of such and such and not treat it like his own little world, go ahead and request the political position in your character application. It's worth a shot.

Q10)Do I have to submit a separate character application for each roleplay character I wish to use?

Yes. See the number of characters you can roleplay and evil character options, Q5 and Q6. (Remember This Secret Word Instead- the other was a decoy: Maynaz)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Q11)What are my race options and restrictions?
You can invent any race you like or use any race you have heard of.
Notes on Snow Elves: All snow elves must be pure-blooded due to the fact that any other race cannot maintain low enough body temperature during pregnancy long enough to create an environment suitable for the child. (Admin Eraydon has a half-snow-elf and she'd be happy to discuss how that came about, but it's a long explanation and the exception, not the rule.) Snow elves have very white skin, white, black, or (rarer) blue eyes, white or silver/grey hair, and are very thin. They have large, white feathered wings and hollow bones. They can walk on both ice and snow. (Random insert: You actually must post BOTH of the words you are suppose to remember on this page- the actual and the de coy- (both se cret wo rds) Also, you must insert the phrase: "I have read all of the information I was supposed to read. If I am caught lying, may I be chopped up, burned, and cremated. Than eaten in a banana soup." Best to copy and paste that phrase. There is actually a tribe of people called the Yanomami in South America that do that... cept they chop people up afterwards if the bones give them trouble.) This description should make it obvious that they are built for speed and agility, NOT brute force. They are very sensitive to warm temperatures and are a general drag anywhere above 70 degrees. They are incapable of traversing in the desert. Chances are, if you use a snow elf, you'll unfortunately regret it. There are some races that are just impractical for traveling purposes- Show elves live in cold climates and would do no better in a summer temperature than we would in 200 degree temps.
Q12)What kind of classes are there?
Any (bard, mage, warrior, etc...). You do not have to specify your characters class, either.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Q13)What kind of skills, powers, etc... are available?

Anything you can think of; however, your character must have a significant weakness the greater the level of power/strength he/she has. If your character is too powerful without a balance on the other end of the scale, it will be rejected.

Q14)What if I have a plot/part that I don't want to reveal to everyone?

That's great that you do and we want to be as accommodating as possible. Let me explain when it's ok and when it is not: PMing/IMing roleplay parts vs. the open forums.

You need to roleplay in the forums even if your character is interacting with only one/few others in secret if it's not a plot spoiler. Let's say this occurs: Eua pulled Tienalei to the side so that nobody could hear them. 'I know where the next rune is and I'm going to get it by myself-- and I want you to come with me'. That doesn't qualify for a secretive post and you'll need to roleplay it out normal in the forum. Everyone else will have to remember that there is a difference between what THEY know and what their CHARACTER knows. If you feel someone's character is acting like they saw what you said when they can't have and it's ruining something, talk to the admins.

You may roleplay via PM/IM with another player if, and only if, the part that you need to roleplay out would spoil something if other players saw it. For example, let's use the first example and tweak it: Eua pulled Tienalei to the side so that nobody could hear them. 'I know where the next rune is, Tienalei, and I'm going to steal it for Maryk. I can't do it alone. While the others are sleeping, I'm going to leave. I want you with me.' <--- in this case, the other members would awake in the morning and Eua and Tienalei would just 'be gone' and likely not further roleplay out their part in front of anyone else unless they really want to. The other roleplayers/characters have reason to be confused/worried/suspicious.

Q15)What are secret words and what do I do with them?

Both in the Rules and in the Questions/Answers section (on this page to be exact) there are secret words. These secret words are implemented randomly into the page to make sure you have thoroughly read the required material. You will know when you come to a secret word- it will tell you. CONTINUE reading the entire page and do NOT stop with that secret word. Once you have the secret word from the Rules and the Questions/Answers page, you will need to add them to your roleplay application.
